Apple A9X

Apple A9X - это производительный двухъядерный процессор архитектуры ARMv8/Cyclone 3, изначально разработанный компанией Apple для планшета iPad Pro. По существующим данным, два вычислительных ядра процессора работают с частотой 2260 МГц. Повышенные тактовые частоты, а также более мощный графический адаптер, вот главные (или даже единственные) отличия A9X от A9 (который используется в iPhone 6s Plus и iPhone 6s).

Архитектура и производительность A9X

Apple не любит распространяться о конкретных технических параметрах своих устройств. Тем не менее, определённые моменты рано или поздно становятся известны.

Так, A9X использует третье поколение 64-битной архитектуры Cyclone и имеет широкую 128-битную шину связи с оперативной памятью. Тип используемой памяти - LPDDR4, планшет iPad Pro использует 4096 Мбайт такой памяти.

Вопреки ожиданиям, в отличие от процессора A8X (он используется в iPad Air 2) новый A9X имеет не три, а 2 вычислительных ядра. При этом они работают с весьма высокой частотой, отличаются продуманной архитектурой и имеют поддержку со стороны эффективной операционной системы iOS, что в совокупности позволяет им опережать в большинстве тестов, а также в реальных приложениях четырёхъядерные и даже восьмиядерные разработки конкурентов.

A9X использует 3 Мб кэша второго уровня и 8 Мб кэша третьего уровня (Apple A8: 1 Мб и 4 Мб, соответственно). Заметные архитектурные улучшения совпали с серьёзным ростом тактовой частоты: ведь A8 в телефонах iPhone 6 и 6 Plus был ограничен тактовой частотой 1400 МГц. Большую роль здесь сыграл переход на 14/16 нанометровый технологический процесс с современными транзисторами FinFET против обычных двумерных транзисторов в Apple A8 с размером затвора 20 нм.

Почему 14/16 нанометров? Потому, что процессоры A9 и A9X производятся не одной компанией, а сразу двумя: Samsung (14 нм) и TSMC (16 нм). Так было сделано по соображениям скорости производства, поскольку одна фабрика не смогла бы обеспечить достаточное количество чипов за относительно короткий срок, чтобы успевать за спросом. Помимо разного техпроцесса (и чуточку разных размеров чипа), A9X (и A9) версии Samsung и версии TSMC практически не отличаются, то есть, они имеют схожий уровень производительности и энергопотребления.

Представители Apple не зря хвастали о том, что благодаря своей аппаратной платформе iPad Pro сможет состязаться с полноценными компьютерами. Как и процессоры A7 и A8 некоторое время ранее, A9X выступает очень достойно как в сравнении с другими ARM-разработками, так и в сравнении со многими современными процессорами x86 от AMD и от Intel (в частности, сериями Atom и Core M). Быстродействие A9X не просто очень велико, оно ещё и обеспечивает солидный запас мощности на пару лет вперёд. Для любых приложений, для любых игр этого будет достаточно.

Как и другие современные платформы-на-чипе (SoC), A9X имеет встроенный графический ускоритель. Про него известно намного меньше, чем про сам процессор. Apple A9 использует графику Imagination PowerVR GT7600, и это достоверный факт, но чем же оснащается A9X? С учётом заметного превосходства iPad Pro над результатами iPhone 6s и 6s Plus у нас есть основания полагать, что речь идёт о GT7800 (256 унифицированных шейдерных процессоров) или даже о GT7900 (512 унифицированных шейдерных процессоров). Есть вероятность и того, что специально для iPad Pro был разработан какой-то собственный графический ускоритель с 320 либо 384 шейдерными процессорами против 192 процессоров у GT7600. Эта вероятность весьма велика, поэтому на данный момент мы будем именовать графику из A9X как PowerVR GT7xxx.

Так или иначе, быстродействие этой графики - как бы она не называлась - будет достаточно для любых игр и приложений 2015-2016 годов, а также для аппаратного декодирования видео высокой чёткости и всех других подобных задач.

Энергопотребление и охлаждение

Из 12-13 Вт, которые потребляет планшет iPad Pro при вычислительной нагрузке, не менее трети требует на себя большой и яркий экран. Из этого можно сделать вывод, что показатель TDP, отвечающий за тепловыделение и расход энергии, для платформы A9X составляет примерно 4-6 Вт. Как процессорные ядра, так и графический адаптер отличаются сравнительно высокой энергоэффективностью, что как раз и позволяет iPad Pro работать более 10 часов при выполнении многих типичных задач.
