Apple A9

Apple A9 - это производительный двухъядерный процессор архитектуры ARMv8/Cyclone 3, изначально разработанный компанией Apple для смартфонов iPhone 6S и 6S Plus. Два вычислительных ядра процессора работают с частотой вплоть до 1850 МГц. Сниженные тактовые частоты, а также более экономичный графический адаптер, вот главные (или даже единственные) отличия Apple A9 от A9X (который используется в планшете iPad Pro).

Архитектура и производительность A9

Apple A9 использует третье поколение 64-битной архитектуры Cyclone и имеет широкую 128-битную шину связи с оперативной памятью. Тип используемой памяти - LPDDR4, в телефонах iPhone 6s и 6s Plus используется по 2048 Мбайт такой памяти.

Процессор имеет 3 Мб кэша второго уровня и 8 Мб кэша третьего уровня (Apple A8: 1 Мб и 4 Мб, соответственно). Относительно A9X (2260 МГц), процессоры A9 работают с более низкой частотой (не более 1850 МГц) - но она всё же заметно опережает те скромные 1400 МГц, что были доступны процессорам A8 из iPhone 6 и iPhone 6 Plus. Новые процессоры отличаются также более продуманной архитектурой. В совокупности это позволяет им опережать в большинстве тестов, а также в реальных приложениях четырёхъядерные и даже восьмиядерные разработки конкурентов.

Большую роль в увеличении энергоэффективности, то есть, сочетания быстродействия и расхода энергии, сыграл переход на 14/16 нанометровый технологический процесс с современными транзисторами FinFET против обычных двумерных транзисторов в Apple A8 с размером затвора 20 нм. Почему 14/16 нанометров? Потому, что процессоры A9 и A9X производятся не одной компанией, а сразу двумя: Samsung (14 нм) и TSMC (16 нм). Так было сделано по соображениям скорости производства, поскольку одна фабрика не смогла бы обеспечить достаточное количество чипов за относительно короткий срок, чтобы успевать за спросом. Помимо разного техпроцесса (и чуточку разных размеров чипа), A9 (и A9X) версии Samsung и версии TSMC практически не отличаются, то есть, они имеют схожий уровень производительности и энергопотребления.

Как и процессоры A7 и A8 некоторое время ранее, A9 выступает очень достойно как в сравнении с другими ARM-разработками, так и в сравнении со многими современными процессорами x86 от AMD и от Intel (в частности, сериями Atom и Core M). Запаса быстродействия будет однозначно достаточно для любых приложений и игр 2015-2016 годов выпуска, а также более ранних.

Кроме того, как и другие современные системы-на-чипе (SoC), A9 имеет встроенный графический ускоритель. Imagination PowerVR GT7600 задействует 192 унифицированных графических процессора (PowerVR GX6450 из прошлого поколения iPhone имел 128 процессоров), и обеспечивает крайне серьёзную, по меркам мобильных телефонов, трёхмерную производительность. На конец 2015 года данный GPU можно считать одним из самых мощных, он напрямую конкурирует с представленной не так давно графикой Nvidia Tegra K1.

Энергопотребление и охлаждение

Из 5-6 Вт, которые потребляют телефоны iPhone 6s и 6s Plus при вычислительной нагрузке, не менее трети требует на себя яркий экран. Из этого можно сделать вывод, что показатель TDP, отвечающий за тепловыделение и расход энергии, для платформы Apple A9 составляет примерно 3-4 Вт. Это более приятные цифры, чем у конкурирующих разработок.
