We would’ve liked cooling to be more effective especially during these summer months and we hope that Lenovo addresses its cooling in future Legion notebooks. With that having been said, the performance and build quality are superb and we can easily recommend this notebook for anybody looking for a portable high-end gaming machine. The Lenovo Legion 7 retails for R49 999 (RRP) which is rather expensive, but considering that many gaming notebooks at this price point only sport an NVIDIA RTX 3070, this is a tempting offer.

The AMD version of the Lenovo Legion 7 is very much identical to the Intel model tested a few weeks ago. The AMD R9 hardware is not as powerful as the current Intel i9 and this AMD configuration lacks a few perks that are Intel exclusive at this point, such as very fast gen4 storage or Thunderbolt 4, but at the same time, this AMD Legion 7 variant is significantly more efficient on battery and a fair bit more affordable than the Intel model. So while you're not going wrong with either one, unless you need that fast CPU performance, the AMD Legion 7 is the arguably better-balanced option here.

I’m very pleased with this 2021 Lenovo Legion 7i. The Legion 5 Pro already checked all my boxes, but this is a significant improvement from even that, which makes it worth the little extra for matching configurations. The performance is among the best you can get on any laptop right now, and I like the keyboard on this series, the all-metal build and the fact the screen goes all the way back. Add in the 16” QHD+ screen, and it leaves very little else to complain about. All except for the battery life, that is, especially on this Intel-based model.

What is even better is the cooling solution. Indeed, thin and light devices have problems with their thermal management. And the solution to that is the vapor chamber. Lenovo has played its cards well and carried on what they introduced last year. At the end of the day, we don’t really know if it will handle the 165W version of the RTX 3080, but with some undervolting everything is possible. Especially when the foundations have been laid.

Исходя из общих впечатлений и всех достоинств ноутбука, он однозначно достоин пяти баллов, но его цена заставляет опуститься на землю. По моему субъективному мнению, Legion – одна из лучших линеек на рынке на сегодняшних день, но кто сможет их себе позволить за стартовых $3300 не совсем понятно. Довольно сложно не отталкиваться от стоимости, когда она вплотную приближается к 100 тыс. грн. (а может и переходит рубеж, точных цен пока нет), но таковы сегодняшние реалии.

The Lenovo Legion 7 is an excellent gaming laptop that combines power with versatility. It has a highly customisable LED light array, but looks sensible when you switch the flashy nonsense off. And its 180-degree tilting screen may also be useful in a work setting. What impressed us most was how Lenovo has maxed-out the performance of the Nvidia RTX 3080 in such a confident and effortless way. We expected the Legion 7 to get louder, and considering it has a metal shell not hugely thick for this class, heat management is sound. For sheer bang for your buck, the Legion 5 Pro with RTX 3070 graphics is probably a better buy. Its speakers are worse and the plastic touchpad isn't as slick as the Legion 7's glass one. But we prefer its deeper keyboard. However, if you'll appreciate the ways Lenovo has added touches that cater for gaming enhancement and you need the power of the RTX 3080, the Legion 7 is a smash hit.

The less than stellar battery life and lack of a fingerprint scanner certainly aren’t ideal, but to top it all at less than two grand, the Legion 7 is excellent value, giving gaming notebooks costing much more a proper run for their money. I’ve never wanted to return a review device less.

However, it’s not perfect, and one of its flaws is hard to ignore considering you’ll be constantly using it (the keyboard). If you want to save some money and get a better keyboard, consider the Acer Predator Helios 300 (2021). However, you’d be sacrificing a better display and longer battery life. Keyboard aside, the Lenovo Legion 7i is a great gaming laptop, and you’ll be hard pressed to find another with as powerful performance and as bright and vivid of a display under $2,000.

In North America, the AMD-based Legion 7 starts at just over $2000 MSRP, while the Intel-based Legion 7i starts at under $2500 for the RTX 3070Ti model. As expected, there’s a significant price gap between the two, but Lenovo tend to offer aggressive discounts from their list prices, so the situation might change as the products age. I’m looking forward to reviewing the 2022 Lenovo Legion 7i and Legion 7 lineups and sharing our findings with you, as well as figuring out how these fare against the competitors in the stratosphere of uncompromised performance laptops, such as the Asus ROG Scars, the Acer Predator Helios 500, the Alienware X15/X17 or the MSI GE66/GE76 Raider models.

In the case of the Legion 7i 2022, there is the 3-year Premium Care warranty as well as the Accidental Damage Protection which is also served on top of Microsoft Office. This does sweeten the deal to the point that its really hard to justify going for another brand especially if you’re trying to max out your purchase. Its new Intel Core HX-class processor vaults its performance to another level, and like its predecessor at review time, it’s one of the very fastest gaming laptops we’ve tested. This laptop's only real downsides are ones you might accept for this level of performance: somewhat overreactive fans (at least for general use) and short battery life. The battery is the main reason we recommend the AMD version of this laptop, the Legion 7 Gen 7, as our Editors' Choice winner among 16-inch gaming machines. However, do not overlook the Legion 7i Gen 7 if battery isn’t a priority and you want every bit of performance that can be had without jumping up to the jumbo-sized MSI GT77 Titan.

Последняя, к сожалению или к счастью, практически не отличается от Radeon RX 6800M.
Не считая пары нюансов, новый Legion 7 16 2022 года выпуска - это лучший игровой ноутбук, что мы видели у Lenovo. Производитель обошелся без компонентов Intel - помимо процессора AMD, здесь установлена видеокарта Raden RX 6850M XT. Последняя, к сожалению или к счастью, практически не отличается от Radeon RX 6800M.

Should you rely on AMD for both your CPU and GPU? Truth be told, Intel wiped the floor with Team Red, thanks to their (Intel’s) 12th Gen processors. Also, AMD has a poor record of driver adequacy, although we had no issues with ours.
