HP’s Omen line of laptops are known for their sheer speed and graphics firepower. The latest Omen 17 is no different in that regard, as it comes with a powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 GPU and an Intel Core i9-13900HX CPU. The refreshed core components from the new GPU (Ada Lovelace) and CPU generation (Raptor Lake) are the main differences to last year’s Omen 17. The casing remains largely unchanged, however. It also sits in a black chassis with a plastic underside and a lid adorned with the Omen logo and lettering. The angular design gives the impression of pure power. While this laptop has a lot to offer, there are a few unimpressive aspects to it. Fingerprints on the lid and wrist rest are a nuisance after a short time. The lid also wobbles when you change the viewing angle and the case has no ports on the back, making cable management difficult. That said, those are minor quibbles with an otherwise outstanding gaming laptop.

We like the HP OMEN 17 (17-db0000). It’s a big stealthy-looking gaming machine with capable cooling and enough performance for playing games with bumped visuals. While having fun with your favorite titles, you’ll notice that the fans aren’t aggressively tuned which isn’t the case with many other contenders of the OMEN 17. Also, the GPU and especially the CPU thermals during max loads are always under control. In this case, the keyboard becomes just a bit warm, not hot. Overall, that’s one of the few gaming devices on the market that offers good comfort without compromising performance. While the 1080p 144Hz screen (CMN1779) may not sound impressive on paper it has a lot of tricks up in its sleeve.

The HP Omen 17 is more than capable of playing AAA titles at high settings with a smooth refresh rate and practically no retained heat, thanks to an impressively effective thermal design. That said, this isn’t the laptop you should buy if high-quality, loud speakers or a satisfyingly clicky keyboard are important to you. The Alienware m16 R2 we reviewed, which also sports an RTX 4070 GPU, produced quite tinny sound, but its keyboard was a breath of fresh air. Its minor flaws and low battery life are easy to overlook if you’re the type of gamer who knows they’ll be connecting headphones, a mouse, and other peripherals for a better experience and won’t play unplugged because it often means sacrificing higher frame rates. If all you care about is overall performance and you’d prefer a gaming laptop with a minimalist look (and you don’t mind a plastic chassis), I’d say the HP Omen 17 is worth it.

The 17.3-inch display here is larger, which is ideal for more immersive gaming, while its 144Hz refresh rate and Full HD resolution offer a responsive and reasonably detailed experience, even if its contrast and brightness aren’t as strong as the competition, as well as its general resolution.

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 Laptop GPU: Высококлассная видеокарта для ноутбуков на базе архитектуры Ada Lovelace. Предлагает 12 ГБ GDDR6 (192 бит) и конфигурируется с ТГП от 60 до 150 Вт (+ Dynamic Boost).

NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU: Высококлассная видеокарта для ноутбуков на базе архитектуры Ada Lovelace. Предлагает 8 ГБ GDDR6 (128 бит) и конфигурируется с ТГП 35 - 115 Вт (+ Dynamic Boost).

Intel Raptor Lake-HX:

i9-13900HX: Мобильный процессор на базе серии Raptor Lake предлагает 24 ядра (8 производительных, 16 эффективных) с Boost-ядром до 5,8 ГГц для P-ядер. Аналогичен настольному i9-13900K, но с меньшими тактовыми частотами и TDP.

AMD Hawk Point (Zen 4/4c):

R7 8845HS: Мощный чип семейства Hawk Point, увидевший свет в H2 2023.
