XPS 15 for pros. Dell's mobile Precision 5510 workstation, an offshoot of the XPS 15, is to primarily satisfy the needs of the professional users. The main difference is therefore Nvidia's Quadro M1000M that shows its strengths, particularly in engineering software and certified applications. We have examined just how well the Precision 5510 really suits professional users.

Грамотно подобранный процессор семейства Xeon, а также видеокарта Quadro отлично справятся со сложными вычислениями, тем более что им в помощь предусмотрено 16 ГБ оперативной памяти стандарта DDR4. Помимо этого, рабочая станция располагает полезным интерфейсом Thunderbolt 3; IGZO-дисплеем с высоким разрешением 3840х2160 пикселей и сенсорным покрытием; непривычно тонким, как для workstation, корпусом и малым весом. Пожалуй, может раздражать разве что непривычное расположение веб-камеры. Да и количества/разнообразия портов и разъемов, вероятно, не всем будет хватать.

Finally, what are my conclusions about the Dell Precision 5510 laptop? My fingers quickly adapted to the keyboard and the 5510 proved to be a better traveling companion compared to the Latitude E5570 thanks to the smaller overall size and weight while not losing any display size. The travel functionality is further improved by the fact the high capacity battery provides at least 10 hours of light use.

When a manufacturer provides drivers (either backported from a newer kernel or supplied for the PC in question), the seamless experience makes you want to lean back and enjoy the OS. Frankly, I wish more PC makers would do what Dell did and offer their hardware to consumers, prepared and equipped for a Linux experience.

With the use of high-quality premium materials, the laptop is not only super rigid but also thin and light. And thanks to the thin screen bezels, the machine fits into the 14-inch category with ease. The input devices are comfortable as well and we are not talking only about work on the go. We weren’t expecting anything less with this price tag, though.

Дорого. Однако тут понятно, за что платишь. В конце концов, рабочий инструмент должен зарабатывать деньги, поэтому нормально, что он и сам стоит немалых денег.

Do people still use the word “smitten” anymore? I have a huge crush on the Dell Precision 5760 workstation, and it grows the more I use it. Its 17-inch display is captivating, endlessly immersive, and just a joy to work on. The 5760 is sleek and doesn’t feel at all like it weighs 5.5 pounds. From its 0.34 inches thick, tactile deck to its massive clicky keyboard and touchpad and 8-plus hours of battery life, I could offer endless platitudes for the Precision, but I digress. I will add that within its test group it is the most affordable workstation, starting at just $2,059, and should you be in the market for a workstation, the Dell Precision 5760 is an excellent option.

The Dell Precision 5470 doesn’t exactly reinvent the wheel, of course, but it represents the gradual evolution of business-centric workstation laptops. It’s a premium machine for sure — especially if you splurge for a Core i7 or Core i9 configuration — but a fairly futureproof one at that thanks to Intel’s ever-evolving vPro tech. Climbing over $3,000, the Dell Precision 5470’s price tag is nothing to sneeze at. Now that we’ve seen what the Precision 17 5770 is all about, it’s time to summarize all the information and try to help you make a purchase decision. Before we start, you have to know that this laptop is fairly expensive. It has all of the vPro goodies from Intel, as well as the optional certifications, should you pick a model that comes with a dedicated GPU. In our experience, the RTX A2000 happened to work just fine, although it was 3W shy of maintaining its 65W power budget. This machine comes with one of the best sounding speakers in the Windows world, which is courtesy of its XPS legacy. The input devices are also very good, while the fingerprint reader and the IR face recognition scanner do help with security. And while having four Thunderbolt 4 connectors is excellent, and utilizing a full-sized SD card reader is useful for photographers, we really miss the dedicated USB Type-A ports and HDMI connectors. Don’t be scared, though, as the company provides a USB Type-C to USB Type-A and HDMI dongle inside the box.

You get four Thunderbolt 4 connectors and a MicroSD card slot. This means no USB Type-As or HDMI on there. However, Dell provides a USB Type-C to Type-A and HDMI dongle inside the box. After all, the XPS-like visuals, the fantastic build quality, and the comfort of use make the laptop a good purchase. It is a great little machine for people working with not-so-complex 3D manipulation, photography, and videography. If the high price is not too offputting for you, the laptop is really worth it. Again, that is if you are in the right niche and if you’ve decided to skip the 14-inch MacBook Pro.
