For these reasons, I’d still recommend the Honor MagicBook 14 over and above the Surface Laptop Go for those seeking a top-quality laptop at a bargain price. The MagicBook is a faster, more practical laptop than the £549 Surface Laptop Go and only a little less portable. There are, however, two sides to this particular debate and the more expensive Surface Laptop Go models make a lot more sense, in particular the top-end £899 configuration. At this price, the Surface Laptop Go’s all-round quality brings it into contact with laptops such as the Apple MacBook Air, Samsung Galaxy Book Ion and Microsoft’s own Surface Laptop 3 – and it more than holds its own.

However, we wish that the entry-level model shipped with at least 8GB of RAM and 128GB storage. The company has also gone aggressive with its strategy to offer the Surface Laptop Go in both commercial and consumer SKUs. We reviewed the i5 model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage and comes at Rs 91,999. While we cannot comment about low-specced versions of the Surface Laptop Go but the one we used was a good value for money package.

Before saying anything, we want to address something. The “Education” version of this notebook has a model, equipped with only 4GB of memory and 64GB of eMMC storage. If you want our advice – stay away from this configuration. 4GB is not nearly enough for a Windows 10 system, and you will be stuck with the S version, because of the lack of RAM upgradeability. Also, the eMMC storage is multiple times slower than the SSD inside of our unit, which reached Read/Write speeds of 2028/822 MB/s – something respectable for a laptop of this caliber.

Beyond the (ahem) surface, the Surface Laptop Go has a reasonably powered Intel Core i5 mobile processor that will do for emails, social media, and some video streaming. It's a shame that you'll have to settle for watching your videos in less than 1080P, with the fans blowing at full speed for little reason.

Intel UHD Graphics G1 (Ice Lake 32 EU): Видеопроцессор, встраиваемый в процессоры Intel Ice Lake серии G1. Задействует графическую архитектуру Intel одиннадцатого поколения с 32 вычислительными блоками из возможных 64. Частота работы меняется по мере роста нагрузки с минимальных 300 МГц до 1050 или 1100 МГц (частота Boost разная в зависимости от модели процессора.) Процессоры Ice Lake изготавливаются на современном 10-нанометровом производстве силами компании Intel.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся со многими играми, если не гнаться за максимальным разрешением и качеством картинки. Сравнительно умеренное энергопотребление таких GPU обеспечит увеличение времени автономной работы.

i5-1035G1: Четырёхъядерный процессор семейства Ice Lake. Ориентирован на тонкие, лёгкие ноутбуки, процессорные ядра располагают функцией Hyper-Threading и используют архитектуру Sunny Cove, а работают с частотой 1.0...3.6 ГГц. Встроенный графический процессор, UHD Graphics G1, располагает 32 блоками EU. Рассматриваемый Core i5 изготавливается на 10-нанометровом производстве Intel и обладает частично интегрированной поддержкой Wi-Fi 6 и Thunderbolt.

Небольшие матрицы обходятся дешевле в производстве и позволяют сделать конечное устройство более легковесным. Но содержимое такого экрана кому-то может показаться мелковатым, даже с учётом масштабирования от опер. системы.
