Когда я готовил обзор, я отталкивался как от российских официальных цен, так и от стоимости POCO X8 Pro Max на маркетплейсах. В первом случае это от 45 тыс. руб., хотя в некоторых магазинах можно найти РСТ-версию и за 35 тыс. руб. На маркетплейсах европейская версия без зарядки обойдется от 32 тыс. руб. (плюс около 3 тыс. руб. пошлина). За эти же деньги предлагается тот же OnePlus Nord 6, у которого проще корпус, чуть слабее «начинка», хотя скорее и во многом более оптимизированная, так как там Snapdragon, а камеры почти идентичны. Можно также присмотреться к прошлогодним флагманам, но они будут дороже, если говорить о покупке нового устройства, а не б/у. Поэтому POCO X8 Pro Max — отличное решение для тех, кому нужна максимальная производительность, высокая автономность и бонусом защищенный корпус с металлической рамкой и качественный экран от 35 тыс. руб. Компромиссы тут есть и они очевидны: простой ультраширик и нет телевика, хотя его наличие в этой категории пока что еще редкость, нежели стандарт. Так что если можете мириться с тем, что по факту тут рабочая только основная камера, POCO X8 Pro Max — хороший выбор.

Of course there are some considerations, and factors like the large amount of pre-loaded apps, quirks with eSIM compatibility, as well as the lengthy wait between software updates are things to keep in mind. The camera (while not terrible) is easily outclassed by similarly-priced devices from Google for example, although that’s not always been a strongpoint of POCO phones. Still, if all you’re after is a hardware-oriented Android phone, then the POCO X8 Pro Max might be something that you’ll want to consider.

Xiaomi’s Poco brand built itself on powerful performance and a lower price – seemingly to entice gamers on a budget. The Poco X8 Pro Max continues that legacy in a way that global supply shortages could quickly nip in the bud. At its £359 launch discount, it absolutely annihilates the similarly-priced Nothing Phone 4a in all but the camera department. Even if the Poco climbs back to its apparent £469 post-release price, I’d have no issue recommending it over the Nothing. With a gargantuan two-day battery, ultra-fast 100W charging, wired reverse charging, and absolutely stellar performance, the Poco X8 Pro Max could be one of the best budget phones of the year. It’s really only held back by the lack of a telephoto lens and truly adaptive refresh rates for movie buffs and bookworms. If those quirks don’t bother you, this is an absolute must. And if you want even more performance and a telephoto lens wrapped in a unique denim look, there’s still the (most expensive) Poco F8 Ultra. You won’t find the X8 Pro Max’s massive battery tucked away in those jeans, though.

While that's not unusual for this Xiaomi sub-brand, the Poco X8 Pro Max certainly takes it to the next level — for a mid-range smartphone. Just take a look at its specs: It uses a MediaTek Dimensity 9500s chipset that's just a step below flagship-tier, and has a 8,500mAh battery that lasts longer than 99% of the smartphones in the market. The other hardware components aren't shabby, either. There's a large 6.8-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and a peak 3,500 nits brightness. The Poco X8 Pro Max is also rated IP69K for water and dust resistance. In comparison, the cameras are merely serviceable (there's no telephoto camera, for instance). But then photography isn't the point here, it's the performance. The Poco X8 Pro Max starts from S$589 (S$559 till April 5) for the 256GB version, and is available in three colours: white, black, and blue.

So, should you buy the POCO X8 Pro Max? Honestly, yes. If you want the best performance possible at an unbelievably low price, the POCO X8 Pro Max is the phone that you should get. That MediaTek Dimensity 9500s is still a truly amazing chipset despite a generation old and still using the old but mature CPU and GPU architecture. However, you do have one alternative – the Xiaomi 15T Pro. It’s equipped with the Dimensity 9400+, and the performance is about the same as the POCO X8 Pro Max, has much better cameras and also an optical telephoto camera, but a smaller battery. The price is definitely higher, but I do think the Xiaomi 15T Pro is worth the price premium if you need better cameras. I truly love the performance of the POCO X8 Pro Max. For the price, it’s really a no-brainer even though when there are definitely some shortcomings here and there to make the price possible.

So, after covering all the bases, what do we think about the POCO X8 Pro Max? To put it to perspective, POCO’s X-Series has always been about delivering the best value for money in the sub-Php20,000 price range. The POCO X8 Pro Max seems to be expanding from that, now maximizing flagship-level performance while still potentially having a more competitive pricing. It’s still a POCO X-Series model after all. I wonder what will happen now for the base POCO F8 model…? If it ever comes out that is. However, with the RAM and storage drives soaring in prices, it’s probably safe to assume that the POCO X8 Pro Max or for any new smartphone release for that matter, will all be more expensive from now on. But if POCO is able to keep the prices low for the POCO X8 Series just like what they did with the F8 Series, then it’s gonna be easily one of this year’s most compelling options. Period.

As the first Max in the series, it comfortably lives up to its name, offering a big and beautiful display, outsized performance, and epic stamina from a ginormous battery – albeit with a correspondingly inflated price. It’s a shame the cameras didn’t receive a smidgen of this Max love, even if we fully accept that this isn’t traditionally a priority for the Poco brand. The software, too, continues to be a weak point for Poco, as it is for the wider Xiaomi family. Still, if you have less than £500 to spend on your next phone and you want to go as big and fast as possible, buying the Poco X8 Pro Max would be a power move that we fully endorse.

At a starting price of just $429 (for early bird buyers), I can definitely recommend the Poco X8 Pro Max. The phone offers such a great package for the price that you should at least consider it. Granted, the camera system is not on par with big and expensive camera phones, even though the main sensor gets the job done. And the lack of wireless charging might be a serious dealbreaker for some. But the stellar battery life, the bright screen, the fast processor, and the overall pleasant design more than make up for the sacrifices Poco made to arrive at the aforementioned price.
