На «кинематографическом» дисплее Xperia 10 действительно удобнее смотреть снятые в соответствующем формате фильмы и сериалы, чем на экранах обычных смартфонов. А еще на таком дисплее здорово играть в игры, потому что мы не перекрываем полезную часть дисплея своими пальцами, а, например, в той же Angry Birds 2 можно видеть всю локацию сразу. Однако здесь Sony спотыкается о слабый процессор, который позволяет запускать требовательные игры лишь на минимальных настройках.

Конечно, если рассматривать Xperia 10, как средство исключительно для просмотра и создания видеоконтента в формате 21:9, то соперников на стороне у него просто нет.

Tricky one this. There’s no denying it, this is an excellent phone when it comes to the cameras, the screen and the GUI. It’s a different form-factor, that’s for sure, but I’m not going to berate them too much for that as there’ll definitely be lots of you out there who will love the tall and almost remote-control-like appearance of this device. However, what I will say is that, in this world of “all screen” phone frontages and multiple use cases, it’s a hard sell for Sony to say, “We’re doing this complete letterbox design because that’s how movies are formatted”. Sure, movies look great on the phone and there’s no black bars, but what about for the rest of the time, when your thumb doesn’t reach high enough and you have to employ one of those work-arounds that Sony has put in place to let you use the phone with one-hand?

After playing fourth or fifth fiddle for the longest time, Sony nails it with the Xperia 10. The performance is solid, the camera is great and the battery life is awesome. The weird 21:9 aspect ratio takes some getting used to but once you start using it you hardly notice it. This is a very good handset from Sony and we're excited to see what the flagship Xperia 1 brings to the table.

For a mid-range device, both the Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are interesting choices. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes them unique, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make you want to choose these over others in the market. If you were to go with one of these, I’d choose the Xperia 10 Plus over the smaller sibling mainly due to the slightly better specs, larger screen, and better cameras. I really see no reason why the smaller Xperia 10 exists to be honest.

Выводы для Sony Xperia 10 Plus в целом грустные. Обычно смартфоны преуспевают хотя бы в чём-то одном: или в производительности, или в автономности, или в цене. Xperia 10 Plus может похвастаться только своим отличным экраном, но учитывая непривычный дизайн это вряд ли будет серьёзным плюсом для пользователя, тем более, что качественные экраны попадаются и у конкурентов (например, у той же Nokia 8.1). Да ещё и формат 21:9 не родной для встроенной камеры, у которой и так качество “не фонтан”. И всё это за официальные 30 тысяч рублей.

If you watch a lot of films and TV on your phone and want a good-performing phone with no notch then the Xperia 10 Plus is a decent mid-range option. There’s zero wow factor here, though. It’s also quite expensive for the performance and build quality – if you’re not fussed by the odd 21:9 aspect ratio then you should save money and get the Moto G7 Plus or much more powerful Pocophone F1 instead.

For a mid-range device, both the Sony Xperia 10 and Xperia 10 Plus are interesting choices. The 21:9 aspect ratio makes them unique, but I don’t know if it’s enough to make you want to choose these over others in the market. If you were to go with one of these, I’d choose the Xperia 10 Plus over the smaller sibling mainly due to the slightly better specs, larger screen, and better cameras. I really see no reason why the smaller Xperia 10 exists to be honest.

Sony hasn’t released a budget phone globally in 2021, but the mid-range Xperia 10 III feels like it should be significantly more affordable. It sticks with a 60Hz display, while most phones shift to 90Hz or even 120Hz. There are still some fairly noticeable bezels too, which definitely aren't to everyone's tastes. The cameras are also extremely patchy, with charging speeds out of the box painfully slow. That’s not to say the Xperia 10 III doesn’t get anything right – far from it. Performance is fine and extends to mobile gaming, while battery life is among the best you’ll find anywhere. It still looks and feels like a premium handset, and the simple software experience is enjoyable. But Sony’s cautious spec sheet and comparatively high price tag means the Xperia 10 III needed to nail the basics. It simply doesn’t do that, making the phone hard to recommend.

And we've picked our words very carefully when talking about the charger but we do have very strong feelings in that respect. Stereo speakers are ever more common in the midrange too, and the Xperia misses out on this trend too. And for a phone that prides itself on its camera prowess, selfies sure aren't up to scratch. However, the Xperia has its fair share of advantages over the competition. Starting with the physical, the Xperia is one of the most compact devices you can find in the midrange. More importantly, it has full IP65/IP68 dust and water protection - best in class weather sealing.

Its chipset is more at home in devices that cost at least £70 less than the Xperia 10 V will, while that 60Hz refresh rate is outclassed by plenty of cheaper options, including most of the affordable Motorola phones announced earlier this year. There are, however, some bright spots: the battery will likely prove to be one of the most enduring on the market, the design is incredibly light for what the phone offers and the extra attention given to the camera suite certainly sounds promising. But, on the other hand, the plastic construction does make it feel less expensive and the camera can be a bit hit-and-miss in its performance. The Sony Xperia 10 IV showed outstanding autonomy across all our tests. In default mode, it had one of the longest typical usage scenarios we’ve tested to date, and it had one of the best autonomy results in the on-the-go tests, especially when scrolling on social apps. When tested in calibrated mode, the device performed very well, having excellent autonomy whatever the use case. Charging the device’s large 5000 mAh battery to its full capacity lasted 2 hours and 36 minutes because of the small charger. A 5-minute charge boost only yielded an average 3 hours and 24 minutes of autonomy. The charge efficiency was poor, and the residual consumption of the charger when the device was fully charged and still plugged in was above average. But the efficiency of the charger itself was average, and its residual consumption when the device was not plugged in was very low, consuming very little power from the outlet. When it came to discharge efficiency, the Sony Xperia 10 IV drained very low discharge currents across all our use cases, meaning that the device was well-optimized. Compared to devices from the same price range ($400 – $599), the Sony Xperia 10 IV’s global score places it near the top of the segment, while its autonomy score takes the top spot. The device also has among the best scores in efficiency for the segment. But its very low charging score, pulled down by the lowest full-charge subscore we have in our database so far, kept it from doing better in the segment.

If you’re drawn to Sony’s unique fuss-free design, more compact screen, and want amazing battery life, the Xperia 10 IV could be the phone for you. Its main camera and zoom capabilities will serve you well, though if night photography and wideangle photography are more your bag, you’ll want to look elsewhere, like the formidable (and cheaper) Google Pixel 6a. That makes the Xperia 10 IV sound like a hard sell, and for most people, it is. If you’re still drawn to its design and positive features after reading this review though, then chances are you’ll get along with it just fine.

The Sony Xperia 10 IV is a breezy, easygoing pocket pal. Its battery life is terrific, particularly for a smaller phone, and the narrow frame makes it less of a handful than the many more performance-driven, nerdy phones you’ll find at a similar price. However, it just doesn’t seem that great a deal next to phones like the Google Pixel 6a and OnePlus Nord 2T. Its processor is a bit weak for the money, which has a significant effect on gaming and a slight hit to general performance. The cameras feel slow and unreliable, thanks to patchy colour handling and below average Auto HDR — night performance is below par too. Slow charging may be acceptable given how long the battery lasts, but add the 60Hz display refresh and the Sony Xperia 10 IV starts to look as though it doesn’t belong in 2022. Still, if you care more about its water resistance and stamina than the more techy stuff, it may be a good fit for your needs.

The main drawback was that the phone, which falls into DXOMARK’s High-end segment, was unable read HDR10 video and lacked UHD support. Once again, we're parting ways with an Xperia 10 not knowing what to make of it. It's expensive for what its specs suggest, and the phone-only box contents don't help make you feel you're getting your money's worth either. The lack of 4K video recording when the previous installment supported it is an odd consequence of the 5G times we live in, but we reckon it could have been avoided with a different choice of chipset, which would have also improved performance numbers. The fact that the display only supports 60Hz refresh rate is inexcusable at this point, and stereo speakers have all but become the norm even in the upper midrange and the 10 IV misses out on those as well. The final and most important question of them all. Should you buy the Xperia 10 IV? Yeah, definitely, if you want a solid phone with maybe the best battery life in this price category, a top-grade 6-inch AMOLED display and snappy performance, by all means - go for it. If you absolutely need a faster refresh rate on your smartphone screen, and you also aim for the best camera experience out there, then you should probably look elsewhere. Truth be told, the Xperia 10 IV is a nice evolution and a pleasant device to hold and use but the price is slowly creeping out of the comfortable budget segment that this phone thrives in. And up there there are a lot of nice phones to consider. It also seems that all Xperia models have contracted the same illness characterized with a raise in price rather than in temperature. Whether or not it will prove problematic or potentially incurable, only time will tell.

The Sony Xperia 10 V offers quite a nice set of features, considering its price. The camera app includes a night mode, auto HDR, and a background blur feature, but it would benefit from additional shooting modes. It feels like Sony are still playing catch up in the mobile phone market, as Apple, Samsung, Google, and others have additional computational shooting modes (such as long exposure). How about the images produced, are they any good? Well, sometimes. In good light, the cameras can product some really good looking images, and colour can be good. At other times, colour is dull. As light levels drop image quality also drops dramatically. There’s also a lack of consistency between shots, in exposure and colour reproduction, so it is often a case of picking the best of several shots to get a good one. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to see why anyone would choose this phone over a Samsung, Google Pixel, or any of the other brands available. There are too many things on this phone that simply aren’t competitive with what’s out there.

The other issue is that the video quality is lacking as detail is poor, as exposure and stabilisation struggles to keep up. Unfortunately, it’s difficult to see why anyone would choose this phone over a Samsung, Google Pixel, or any of the other brands available, as there are a number of things on this phone that simply aren’t competitive with what’s out there. However, if improvements could be made to the performance and responsiveness of the phone and cameras, then it could be a contender.

Factor in a nigh-on identical design, and it’s pretty much impossible to waver from our previous, rather middling verdict. We really shouldn’t still be talking about a 60Hz display here, nor should the Xperia 10 V be stuck with the same mediocre processor as its predecessor. Those two elements might lead to class-leading stamina, but they also leave the phone feeling sluggish and somewhat unresponsive. Yes, the phone has improved in certain ways, with a much brighter display, stereo speakers and a better main camera. But Sony would have been better served to apply its resources to the areas where the Xperia continues to fall well short of the mid-range elite.

The Xperia 10 has always been the baby of Sony’s bunch, focusing more on long-lasting batteries than cutting-edge hardware, and largely sticking to sensible prices – albeit usually higher than the mid-range competition. That hasn’t really changed for the Mk V: it’s an impressively long-lasting phone, with signature Sony niceties like front-facing speakers and a 3.5mm headphone port, but in many respects rivals offer much better value. Reusing the same low-tier CPU as last year stifles performance, and the decision to stick with a 60Hz refresh rate is a head-scratcher. The three-lens camera array is flexible, sure, but 4K video recording is MIA. Charging speeds could be better, too, especially as you’ve now got to provide your own power brick and USB cable. The Xperia 10 V feels behind the times as a result, and difficult to recommend unless you’re sold on Sony’s styling, demand expandable storage, or find an especially good discount from the retail price.

The Sony Xperia 10 V showed excellent autonomy across all our tests, lasting more than 3 days when used moderately. On-the-go performance was also very good, especially when using the camera. When testing individual usages, the Sony Xperia 10 V’s autonomy was excellent for all use cases. With a slightly more powerful charger than its predecessor, the Sony Xperia 10 V was able to fully recharge its battery in 2 hours and 16 minutes, which is slightly faster than its predecessor, but still longer than the average in our database. Moreover, a quick 5-minute boost provided 4 hours of autonomy on average, which is slightly our below average.

Looking at the results based on my review, I do not understand why other reviewers give the Xperia 10 V such high scores. Okay, Sony impressed me in terms of build quality and included features like a microSD slot and a 3.5 mm headphone jack untouched. And yes, the Xperia 10 V fills an exciting niche with its lightweight form factor and 21:9 screen format. However, the Xperia 10 V is disappointing for a phone that resides in the $500 range. That is not my personal opinion, but the result of a quick look at the competition. The triple camera left much to be desired with its tiny sensors, both during the day and at night. The limited video resolution of 1080p is also a relic from older times. The phone looks just as antiquated in terms of quick-charging as well as the display, which has a maximum refresh rate of 60 Hz.

In the DXOMARK Camera tests, the Sony Xperia 10 V performed well for landscape scenes shot without any motion and in good light. In such conditions, still images had a good level of detail and pleasant colors. However, image quality suffered in more challenging situations, for example, with motion in the scene or backlit subjects, where our testers observed a lack of detail, exposure issues and various unwanted image artifacts. Despite dedicated ultra-wide and tele cameras, the Sony’s zoom capabilities were fairly limited, with a lack of detail and a limited dynamic range that resulted in highlight clipping across the entire zoom range. Video quality lagged behind stills. While in bright light, colors were nice, there was a lack of detail as well as exposure instabilities in pretty much all recording conditions. Video stabilization was ineffective, too, resulting in noticeable camera shake.

The Sony Xperia 10 V’s display had a very mixed performance. The device’s screen was comfortable to use when indoors, thanks to well-managed brightness and good color rendering. However, the device faltered when it came to watching movies and videos, scrolling the web or social networks, mainly because of its lack of smoothness in those use cases. The device’s very good management of frame drops was not enough to offset the device’s inability to read UHD and HDR videos, which drastically curtailed the video experience. Still, the Sony Xperia 10 V showed a slight improvement over its predecessor, the Xperia 10 IV, particularly in color and in the handling of screen artifacts.

But at the same time, the phone is lacking when it comes to faster refresh, more brightness, and many more things. However, it’s good to see that the company is providing various protection elements. Anyway, if we have to look for an alternative option, we would consider the Samsung Galaxy A54 as it provides a complete package of features.

The Xperia 10 V is a great budget phone. It perfects an already great formula, adding stereo speakers, a brighter display, a slightly better main camera, and keeping the same stunning battery life in a very compact and lightweight package. There are some omissions worth pointing out, though. The 60 Hz display refresh rate is a thing of the past, even on budget phones. The side-mounted fingerprint reader could use some R&D work, and the price tag is pushing things a bit. The Snapdragon 695 is getting old now, and the lack of 4K video recording and streaming is another blow to the Xperia 10 V. But overall, if you like the Xperia aesthetics and the 21:9 screen, don't care about refresh rates, and you need a "Mo Farah" rather than a "Usain Bolt", this phone is a great option.

Once again, not a lot has changed going from the Xperia 10 IV and even the 10 III to the new Xperia 10 V. That's both a good and a bad thing. If you are a fan of the iconic thin and tall, extra light design on the phone, there is just nothing else out there in the midrange space to offer an alternative. Similarly, the 21:9 display aspect ratio remains a pretty exclusive spotlight feature. Let's start with some positives first. The Xperia 10 V finally has a stereo speaker setup and a pretty good one at that - front-facing, well-balanced and decently loud, with a clean output. Making a return - the great ingress protection rating is hard to come by in the midranger space.
