HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro получился в положительном смысле нетипичным смартфоном. Он сильно выделяется своим дизайном за счет симметричного блока камер, стальной рамки и пестрой задней крышки оранжевого цвета. Все остальные параметры тоже сделаны на флагманском уровне. Больше всего внимания заслуживает камера, которая имеет в своем арсенале основной модуль с физически регулируемой диафрагмой, телевик с 3,5-кратным оптическим зумом и ультраширокоугольник с автофокусом. Из других плюсов смартфона стоит отметить OLED-дисплей на 120 Гц, производительный процессор, шуструю оболочку, наличие защиты от попадания пыли и влаги по стандарту IP68, хороший запас автономности и быструю зарядку. Из минусов мы смогли выделить разве, что большую челку над экраном, но ее полностью нивелирует точный 3D-сканер распознавания лица.

Вы вряд ли найдёте ещё один такой же настолько простой в фотографировании и съёмки видео смартфон, который бы выдавал настолько высокое качество изображений и видеороликов. И лично меня радует, что он при этом — не «фотоаппарат с функцией телефона» и хорош по качеству в остальных дисциплинах. Красивый, особенно в оранжевой версии, мощности с запасом на ближайшие годы, экран с «вылизанной» до идеала цветопередачей и без мерцания, автономность в порядке (ну, насколько это возможно для смартфонов с рекордно мощными процессорами), есть быстрая и беспроводная зарядка, защита от воды, ИК-порт и прочие необходимые флагману вещи. Да, некоторого привыкания требует EMUI — это теперь уже такой «Android внутри Android» по количеству вещей, которые можно настроить. HUAWEI активно развивает своё видение идеальной операционной системы. Но в общем-то, никто не заставляет вас лезть переключать все переключатели и крутить все крутилки, потому что уже из коробки всё будет работать хорошо. И, наконец, если покупать этот смартфон вдобавок к умным часам, браслетам или ноутбукам HUAWEI, получите действительно много преимуществ в перебрасывании файлов, доп.функциях и прочих удобствах (HUAWEI Share же) в сравнении с теми, кто покупает «какой-нибудь смартфон» к «какому-то там ноутбуку, уже не помню, какая разница — они все одинаковые». А разница есть, мы вам это гарантируем. И советуем попробовать, если представится возможность.

Если с HUAWEI P50 Pro полноценное возвращение в элиту создателей флагманских смартфонов у китайской компании не получилось, то с HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro – кажется, получилось вполне. Да, речь идет в первую очередь о «кожаной» оранжевой версии, которая наряду с благородным дизайном предлагает стекло повышенной прочности (проверять его краш-тестом мы не стали — остается поверить). Дополняет его HUAWEI привычным джентльменским набором элитного смартфона: мощнейшей платформой Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1, быстрой зарядкой (в том числе беспроводной) и замечательным — ярким и быстрым — OLED-экраном. Из особенного для Android-смартфона — полноценная система распознавания лица. Ну и есть изюминка, которой не хватило весеннему флагману, — главная камера с переменной диафрагмой и впечатляющим качеством съемки. К сожалению, с камерой же связан и спорный момент Mate 50 Pro – десятикратный зум плохо работал при отрицательных температурах. Но есть надежда, что это будет исправлено в будущих прошивках. В остальном же к HUAWEI Mate 50 Pro очень сложно придраться — тем более при цене от 70 тысяч рублей, что для флагманского смартфона с характеристиками «мейта» очень даже неплохо.

Олл-инклюзив по версии Huawei выглядит так. Еще и в России покупка приложений работает. Самое главное — цена. Прошлогодний «мэйт» стоил 90 тыс. рублей, Huawei Mate 50 Pro (модернизированный во всем) стоит от 79990 рублей за версию 8/256 ГБ и 89990 — за 8/512 ГБ. За смартфон на Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 и всеми перечисленными «плюшками» прайс выглядит подозрительно адекватным (по меркам 2022 года). Но подвоха нет — и по соотношению цена/характеристики Huawei Mate 50 Pro сейчас является одним из лучших флагманов 2022 года.

We don’t want to be dramatic, the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is fine, it does a good enough job, but at this price point, “fine” and “good enough” just simply don’t cut the mustard. While we understand the reason 5G is absent here, we can’t simply ignore its omission and wave it off. The chipset’s performance is fine, but again, newer phones in the same price point are going to out run the Mate 50 Pro. The battery, charging, display and camera are impressive, but there are many other manufacturers who can match that performance without the downsides Huawei brings with it. All of this means that Huawei’s latest flagship is not worth the R24 999 price tag. It’s a shame that the US upended Huawei the way it did, but until this handset, it felt as if the firm was trying its best to make do with the cards it had been dealt. The Mate 50 Pro, however, is lacking in too many areas to warrant a recommendation. We simply can’t recommend this handset and would instead point readers to our review of the latest Samsung Galaxy S23

The Huawei Mate 50 Pro’s overall battery score was average. The phone’s autonomy was poor, delivering just over a day and half of power when used moderately. The Mate 50 Pro was also quite power hungry at night, when at activity is generally low, losing on average 4% per night. The device’s battery also would just collapse when reaching 3%. When testing use cases individually and outdoors, the Mate 50 Pro’s autonomy was below average for all use cases, except gaming, where the results were above average. The Mate 50 Pro’s charging experience was excellent. The 66W wired charger took only 46 minutes to fill up the 4700 mAh battery. Similarly, the wireless stand took 1 hour and 26 minutes to fully charge the battery, which was much faster than average. The residual consumption levels of the wired charger and of the wireless charger when the device was unplugged were above average. The device’s efficiency results varied a bit depending on the charging method. The wireless charge efficiency was excellent, but wired efficiency was average. The Mate 50 Pro’s discharge currents were high overall, meaning that the device is not well optimized, except for gaming. When compared with devices from the Ultra-Premium price range ($800+), the Huawei Mate 50 Pro is just below average. Its autonomy, as well as its efficiency score were below average. But it showed excellent results in terms of charge, placing it among the best charging performances of its segment.

Yet we all know that there's a big BUT to the whole thing. It's not that Google Mobile Services and 5G connectivity are impossible to live without. Huawei's AppGallery and alternative app repositories have gone a long way in the past few years, while 5G is yet to really become a game changer for most of our daily lives. The real issue is that when you are paying a lot of money for a flagship you can live with it not being at the top of every chart, but it needs to be thereabout. And the Huawei Mate 50 Pro has a few glaring omissions on its scoresheet so it will always be at a big disadvantage when the final results are out. Huawei being the black sheep of the smartphone market means the Mate 50 Pro doesn't stand a chance of selling millions of units in Europe. Some users willing to steer away from Google will be glad that it's available, but most will just ignore it. But it's a lovely phone and another proof that Huawei's well of innovation is far from drying. If nothing else it will serve as a well-design publicity stunt that will increase user confidence in the company's other products - wearables, TWS earphones and laptops, which are far better positioned to become best-sellers.

It also achieved the best Photo score to date, thanks to excellent results in the exposure, focus, and texture/noise categories. The autofocus score benefited a lot from the new and innovative adjustable aperture, which allows for the optimization of the depth of field in a scene. An adjustable aperture is especially useful, for example, in group portraits. As smartphone image sensors have become bigger, the effect has been a reduced depth of field, which makes it more difficult to keep all subjects in focus if they are not in the same focus plane. The Huawei system uses an embedded diaphragm that allows for adjustment from f/1.4 to f/4.0, so, depending on the scene, the camera can either prioritize light capture (in low light), maximize depth of field, or pick a more balanced setting between the two extremes. We last saw a similar feature on the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 series with its duo aperture, but it’s still quite uncommon, and the Samsung feature does not lead to the same results.
