У Nothing снова получился очень интересный смартфон, что в нижней части среднего ценового сегмента встречается нечасто. CMF Phone 2 Pro сохранил оригинальный дизайн и модульную конструкцию, почти как у предшественника (жаль, что уже без съёмной крышки), а вместе с тем получил ряд улучшений и предложил кое-что уникальное для околобюджетного сегмента. Я, конечно же, имею в виду тыльную камеру, а именно модуль с телеобъективом. Подобное не встречается ни у одного смартфона в той же ценовой категории: тройные камеры у них зачастую представлены основным, широкоугольным и вспомогательным модулями (ну или макрокамеру поставят для количества). Здесь же мы получаем настоящий оптический зум —пусть и только двукратный, но качество съемки в любом случае лучше, чем у конкурентов с зумом гибридным.

One major consideration for US buyers is the limited availability and carrier support. The phone is only available through Nothing's Beta program in the US, and you might encounter compatibility issues depending on your carrier. T-Mobile, my carrier of choice, offers the best connectivity for 3G, 4G, and most 5G. AT&T lacks 5G, VoLTE, and VoWiFi support, while Verizon is even more unreliable. LTE may work if your IMEI is whitelisted, but CDMA and 5G are not supported there. The CMF Phone 2 Pro is a solid low-midrange smartphone that offers excellent value for its cost. The device isn't perfect, but its downsides are all pretty reasonable tradeoffs. The lack of availability of its playful modular system is concerning and could be the one big ding on an otherwise excellent budget device.

Only $40 separates last year’s CMF Phone 1 and the new CMF Phone 2 Pro, which is peanuts when I think about the price difference between an iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. There’s a lot to like about the CMF Phone 2 Pro, like its more premium design, longer battery life, brilliant looking screen, and the addition of a telephoto camera. However, I have higher expectations around any phone that’s deemed a ‘pro’ model because it should present itself as a much improved version. There are aspects about the CMF Phone 2 Pro that I find underwhelming, namely its lackluster processing performance scores and how there’s no big improvement to its camera performance. But at the same time, I can’t neglect how this phone costs $279 — and good phones don’t often come this cheap.

It gets the job done under daylight, but the moment you go beyond the vanilla point-and-shoot experience, things start to fall apart.It's not a total disaster, but the unrealized potential is quite brazen. If you're looking for alternatives within the $300 bracket, the OnePlus Nord N30 5G is a competent choice. For a vanilla Android experience, the Moto G lineup has a few compelling choices.

Okay. So, wrapping up this review, I definitely think the CMF Phone 2 Pro is an excellent smartphone at around NPR 35,000 in Nepal. Its single speaker setup sucks, and I wish Nothing had gone with a slightly more powerful processor as well, but I’d still say this is quite a balanced smartphone. It has a cool design, versatile cameras, a nice bright display, decent battery life, and a clean software experience, which is very rare in this price range. I’ve used the CMF Phone 2 Pro for at least 10 days and it has coped with normal, everyday duties without issue. The software is fast and fun, the battery returns two days of use on a single charge, and the modular accessories keep it interesting. The screen falls behind the competition and the inconsistent camera means it won’t be one for the keen photographer, but when you consider the phone’s position in the market, these are expected cost-saving compromises. It’s obviously not a Galaxy S25 Ultra or OnePlus 13 alternative, but it’s a lot more fun than the Galaxy A56, and the software, materials, and design make it more desirable and enjoyable to use than a Moto G or a Moto G Stylus. It should force you to ask some hard questions about your phone use, and if it doesn’t really warrant a flagship phone, the CMF Phone 2 Pro belongs on your list of sensibly priced alternatives next to winners like the Nothing Phone 3a Pro and the Google Pixel 9a. It’s a far better phone than the price suggests, and a recommended buy.

As you could probably already tell, we like the CMF Phone 2 Pro quite a bit. It's great value for the money and it is nice that you get double the storage at a lower price than the competition. CMF's most important added value is the clean and well-optimized user interface, and coupled with adequate hardware this results in a phone that runs quite a bit smoother than others and is a joy to use. We are not fully sold on the modularity idea and the screw-on lenses, as those seem more of a marketing gimmick rather than adding real value. However, we do appreciate the quirky design and our only real complaint would be the sub-par audio quality. If you can deal with that, the CMF Phone 2 Pro might just be the budget phone of 2025.

That’s not to say that you should buy it over an actual flagship phone if you have the budget for one. But if you’re looking for a phone at around $300 or so, this is easily the one to buy. A year ago I said the CMF Phone 1 “nailed the basics of a budget phone”. Its successor goes even better than that, adding features that were missing before and improving on others. The camera situation has taken a welcome step forward, and the design is a little more mature, too. Or as much as anything this bright and orange can mature, anyway. Performance and battery life have only seen incremental changes, and there are a few more keenly-priced rivals in the mix than there were for the original CMF Phone, but Nothing’s commitment to modularity and a wonderfully customisable Android interface help make this my top pick for the cash. Even the Essential space is becoming that bit more essential than it was on its debut. Unless you’re willing to spend twice as much on better low-light photography and gaming oomph, there’s very little not to like here.

Performance-wise, the Phone 2 Pro strikes a solid balance between power and efficiency, handling daily tasks and extended gaming sessions with ease, while keeping thermal throttling impressively low. The display is excellent for the price — bright, vivid, and responsive.

I won’t mince words here: if you live outside the United States and want an Android phone that costs less than $300, this is now the only thing I would recommend. You’ll get a fantastic display, a forward-thinking, beautiful design, and a camera system that literally has no equal at this price point. Frankly, you’d be throwing money away if you were to buy anything else. Here in the United States, though, I can’t be so confident. The lack of adequate band support brings the phone down significantly, and the lack of access to its unique accessories drags it down even more. Even when you factor in its camera system and low price, it might be better to get something else instead. If you do live in the US and are looking for something good at around this price, I’d start with the Samsung Galaxy A25 5G ($299.99 at Amazon).
