It’s not the outright most powerful laptop you can get for this sort of money or the best for gaming, nor is it the lightest or most compact for travel. To be clear, you can buy better laptops that are better in each of those individual categories, and Windows laptops definitely offer better value for money if you need lots of storage and RAM. However, if you need one laptop to do everything and don’t mind paying a premium for better specifications, then the M5 MacBook Pro is absolutely the best there is. It’s the finest all-the-talents laptop in the world.

What we're really looking at here is improvements in graphic performance and more AI capabilities. Which does beg the question, who is this 14in model for? Seems a bit too juiced for the average office bod. What's more, the M4 model of MacBook Air is significantly cheaper. However, just because it is a bit too similar to the M4 model doesn't make it a bad laptop. It is the opposite, a stupendously great one, with a beautiful, bright display, brilliant graphical performance, and a ridiculously good battery.

When simply using it as a daily driver, doing basic browsing tasks, and running multiple Chrome windows plus Slack, I could easily make it through an entire workday and still have enough battery left over for watching some YouTube videos at home.

Word on the street is that the MacBook Air and more powerful variants of the MacBook Pro will not arrive until sometime early next year. But if time is on your side, the question to ask is what you would achieve by waiting. If you need more performance than the M5, then obviously, you’ll need to wait for the M5 Pro or M5 Max versions.

The low-end MacBook Pro has always occupied an odd in-between place in Apple’s lineup, overlapping in a lot of places with the MacBook Air and without the benefit of the much-faster chips that the 15- and 16-inch MacBook Pros could fit. The M5 MacBook Pro carries on that complicated legacy, and even with the M5 there are still lots of people for whom one of the M4 MacBook Airs is just going to be a better fit. But it is a very nice laptop, and if your screen is the most important part of your laptop, this low-end Pro does make a decent case for itself. It’s frustrating that the matte display is a $150 upcharge, but it’s an option you can’t get on an Air, and the improved display panel and faster ProMotion refresh rate make scrolling and animations all look smoother and more fluid than they do on an Air’s screen.

Apple M5 GPU: Интегрированная графическая карта, разработанная Apple и интегрированная в Apple M5 SoC. Имеет 10 ядер и, по данным Apple, производительность на 30% выше по сравнению с GPU M4.
Графические процессоры этой категории производительности способны на многое и подойдут для большинства игр, иногда даже при максимальных настройках и разрешениях. Чаще всего GPU "просто верхнего" уровня производительности расходуют заметно меньше энергии, чем самые-самые топовые и дорогие модели.
