For buyers upgrading from an A55 or older, the A57 is an easy recommendation because the cumulative improvements are significant and the long-term software commitment is compelling. For A56 owners, the case is much harder to make. And for anyone entering this segment fresh at around Rs 57,000, the competition is serious and informed. The A57 is a good phone, but we would advise buyers to be on the lookout for a price cut or discounts during sale season.

The Galaxy A57 5G has me conflicted because there is so much about it that I genuinely like. It is thin, light, well-built, comfortable to use, and easily one of the nicest mid-range phones I’ve held in years. The display is great, the main camera takes photos I’d happily post, the battery comfortably lasts a full day, and One UI 8.5 runs lighter than any version of Samsung’s skin has in years. Even after switching from the Z Fold 7, I never felt desperate to move my SIM back. That says a lot. But the A57 5G also leaves a few obvious upgrades on the table. A more capable processor would have fixed half the complaints in this review on its own, including the thermals, the stutters, and the camera app’s occasional lag. The ultrawide camera could have used a real upgrade, and the macro camera just deserves a quiet retirement. Wireless charging would have been nice, too.None of these is an obvious dealbreaker. The biggest problem with recommending the Galaxy A57 5G is Samsung’s own Galaxy S25 FE ($534.99 at Samsung). It has significantly more power, a dedicated telephoto lens, wireless charging, and the badge of being part of Samsung’s flagship lineup. Even at MSRP, it’s only $100 more than the A57 5G, and it’s already been going on sale for the same price as the A57 5G, and sometimes even less.If you want something smaller, the superb Pixel 10a ($499 at Amazon) offers the full Google Pixel experience for slightly less. It runs an older but still flagship-grade Tensor chip, includes wireless charging, has one of the best point-and-shoot cameras in any price range, and gets seven years of software updates — one year more than Samsung’s phone.

If you, however, care about those things and want a phone that will remain fast for years to come, the $500 price premium is definitely worth considering.

I think this is really a no brainer. When it comes to mid-range phones, I was pretty happy with the Pixel 10a and I maintained that it was the best mid-range offering, coming in at $499. Now that I’ve reviewed the Galaxy A57 though, I think this is the new mid-range king and that’s because it gives an overall better. The camera quality is about the same, though I do think the photos look a little nicer coming from the Galaxy A57. Battery life is also pretty similar, but I think the biggest things that set this phone apart are its gorgeous display, and its performance. While the fingerprint sensor is a bit slow, I think overall the Galaxy A57 performs pretty well in most use case scenarios. So for $549.99, I think yes, this is a phone you should definitely buy if you’re looking for something mid-range. If you’re willing to spend a little more money, like $100 and up, then maybe this isn’t the device for you because then we’re starting to get pretty close to low-cost flagships. However, around this price point, this an excellent choice. Even more so when you consider the price will probably come down in the next six months, if it even takes that long.

First, I would say that both are excellent mid-range phones, but each has unique advantages. The bigger screen of the Galaxy might alone be a reason to buy as the iPhone just feels too cramped. At the same time, the Galaxy is thin and lightweight, so it doesn't really feel like a big phone. It's my favorite mid-range phone when it comes to design.I would also get the Galaxy for the smoother daily performance with that 120Hz refresh rate, the brighter screen outdoors and the faster charging. Go for the iPhone if you prefer the Apple ecosystem, if you want the performance power to know that your phone will stay zippy for years to come and if you want the better camera for both photos and videos. And if you want wireless charging.

In the beginning of the review, I told you that while I was impressed by the slim design at first, one word kept echoing in my mind all the time I was using the Galaxy A57 5G. And that word was... "average". How is the performance of Samsung's new mid-ranger? Average. What about the cameras? Well, average! And the battery life? You guessed it, perfectly average. To be fair, that is a perfectly adequate description of a mid-range phone. And there are a few things that stand out too. The slim and lightweight design is my favorite feature of the A57, I wish more phones adopted it, it's absolutely brilliant. The fast charging speeds are very nice, and the loudspeaker quality surprised me. As for my biggest gripe with this phone, it's the super slow fingerprint reader. So what are your alternatives? In the same price bracket, you now have the iPhone 17e and the Pixel 10a, both of which win when it comes to the processor and the camera. The A57 is also far too close in price to the Galaxy S25 FE, which again has a faster chip and better cameras, including a telephoto one. I am not convinced that the Galaxy A57 5G makes a lot of sense at full price, but wait for the discounts. If you can get it at $450, the large, bright screen and the Samsung software suddenly may seem very, very tempting.

The battery life is sufficient that many won’t need to charge it each day, and it charges quickly, too. It's in these areas that the Galaxy A57 is a better choice than the Pixel 10a. The software is well-designed and easy to use, plus it’ll be supported for years, and the phone feels expensive and durable, meaning you won’t immediately look to upgrade it next year. It makes the $50 increase in price over the Galaxy A56 easier to accept. If you own the Galaxy A56, it’s not dramatically improved, so you may not want to upgrade, but if the Pixel 10a looks too much like the Pixel 9a, and the Nothing Phone 4a Pro is too bold, the Galaxy A57 should be at the top of your shopping list. Buy it with confidence, but have a good check to see if the Galaxy S25 FE is available at a discount before committing.

In a rare move (and motivated by the vast gulf in prices) I’m going to separate the 256GB model from the 512GB for the verdict. The latter is absolutely not worth buying, it costs too much and offers too little, falling well short of other options in that price range. The 256GB model has more appeal to it, with its wonderfully slight and lightweight build being the main draw – though performance, battery life and display quality aren’t bad either. And, of course, that excellent software support remains a key advantage. Samsung fans looking to avoid the high prices of the S series will find the A57 to be the ideal, cost-conscious alternative. If you’re brand-agnostic, however, the Google Pixel 10a is better value overall. The cameras are stronger, the battery lasts longer and you get an extra year of software support.

It’s a bit of a funny situation, but the truth of the Samsung Galaxy A57 is that while it’s basically a cheaper alternative to the top dogs, it mostly makes sense as a buy if you don’t care too much about value. Most other phones at this price are far more powerful, and some are more overtly feature-packed. And while Samsung hits back with top-quality construction and materials, that may not quite be enough for some. Highlights include a solid primary camera and good speakers, but Samsung really needs to get up-to-date with battery tech to make the next Galaxy A phone like this a real competitor for the less geeky shopper working to a sensible budget (same can be said of the S series too). That said, though, I’ve enjoyed using the Galaxy A57 more than some of its more value-packed rivals because of that extra attention to the basics I notice every day. And that'll go a long way for many prospective buyers.

On the other hand, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE is a far better phone in most respects than the Galaxy A57, offering an enhanced software experience, improved performance, and better cameras, along with the Samsung Galaxy S series brand.

The Samsung A57 is powered by an Exynos 1680 chipset and this can handle a bit of gaming when needed, although the likes of the Poco X8 Pro Max is more capable. Likewise, the camera tech here is recycled wholesale from the old A56, with some of the same issues as the S26 series.

It's become more refined, and it feels more premium. The new Exynos chip with LPDDR5X RAM is alright - it provides balanced everyday performance, but the competition has upped its game a lot this year, and the A57 is trailing behind. The camera department turned out to be surprisingly good, with excellent main and selfie cameras. The ultrawide shooter did okay, but the macro lens is there just for earning the "triple-camera" title for the A57. Finally, the battery life is now improved despite the identical battery capacity as last year. The One UI on the A57 is a typical Samsung affair minus DeX and a few AI tricks. The A57 is a good phone, all things considered, but not at that price. The Galaxy A56 is almost the same phone at half the price, while the Galaxy S25 FE is a flagship device with a similar tag. The Galaxy A57 is a very balanced phone with hardly any shortcomings so it's well worth a recommendation, but until it gets a price cut, it will remain a hard sell.
