You can run any applications you'll need for business use, including Microsoft Office, and the trackpad and Mac OS X make the Air a pleasurable device to use. And the good news for first-time Air purchasers, is that they'll be getting extra battery life and storage space, still at the original 2011 price tag. So while the previous entry-level model would have set you back £849 for a 64GB, Intel Core i5 Ivy Bridge model with around three and a half hours of battery life, you can now get your hands on a 128GB model running Intel Haswell and offering around eight hours of juice for the same price. However, savvy buyers might want to wait until autumn to get their hands on a MacBook Air running Mavericks.

Мне нравится, как Apple выводит на рынок обновления продуктов. Без особой претензии на революцию, без ярких надписей «100500 попугаев!» на коробках. Тем не менее, в какой-то мере новые MacBook Air всё же произвели революцию. У меня когда-то был нетбук, который работал «честные» 9 часов - он весил 1,4 кг и имел довольно слабый процессор и 10-дюймовый экран разрешением 1024х600 пикселей. Здесь же - всего 1,08 кг за 11-дюймовую версию и 1,35 кг за 13-дюймовую версию, с довольно мощным процессором и экраном более-менее приемлемого разрешения. Ну а поклонники экранов Retina могут наслаждаться новыми MacBook Pro Retina. Не исключено, конечно, что в будущих MBA «ретина» и появится (ну или хотя бы Full HD), но только не в ущерб компактности и автономности. А у последней планка задрана теперь очень высоко.

На сегодняшний день сильных качеств, заложенных в MacBook Air еще несколько лет тому назад, вполне хватает для того, чтобы модели по-прежнему отличались интересными и привлекательными для покупателя качествами. К ним я отнесу фирменный дизайн, хорошие материалы и сборку, отличную клавиатуру с подсветкой и тачпад. Вдобавок очередное поколение обладает совершенно новой начинкой, которая пока что доступна для весьма ограниченного круга моделей, но это ненадолго, все в скором времени обновят свои устройства. Без недостатков тут тоже не обошлось. Здесь все так же мало разъемов, рамка у экрана великовата для его габаритов, а само разрешение тоже намекает на прошлое. Но как бы то ни было, и по сей день MacBook Air будет одним из лучших предложений среди ультрабуков. Моделей с такими показателями автономной работы в продаже еще нет, а это очень сильная черта для мобильного решения. Я думаю, что для подавляющего большинства покупателей это станет ключевым фактором при покупке, Retina-экран не столь важен, как время работы от одной зарядки.

The MacBook Air 13-inch (Mid 2013) is the system you want to be using if you need to deliver real work away from your desk. The fact that it can return such a long battery life while still using a mainstream processor is astonishing. Make no mistake, this simple score shows that laptops haven't conceded the battery life prizes to the mobile OS tablets yet. The MacBook Air 13 is close, but not quite perfect, since it lacks a built in HDMI-out port and the slower-clocked processor returns slower multimedia performance on benchmark tests than rivals. That said, due to its excellent battery life, portability, and its very good day-to-day performance, we have no qualms in giving the Apple MacBook Air 13-inch (Mid 2013) the Editors' Choice for ultraportable laptops.

Итак, давайте подведем итог. Прежде всего, еще раз отметим, что обновленная версия 13-дюймового ноутбука MacBook Air (Early 2014) обновленной является весьма условно. В базовой конфигурации в обновленной модели устанавливается процессор Intel Core i5-4260U, а модели прошлого года в базовой конфигурации комплектовались процессорами Intel Core i5-4250U. Собственно, это единственная разница между базовыми конфигурациями этого и прошлого года. Ну а топовая конфигурация вообще не изменилась — в ней, как и прежде, устанавливается процессор Intel Core i7-4650U. Понятно, что при таких «обновлениях» ожидать прироста производительности не приходится. При использовании операционной системы Windows 8 производительность 13-дюймового ноутбука MacBook Air (Early 2014) с процессором Intel Core i5-4250U в неигровых приложениях лишь на 15% превосходит производительность типичного ультрабука прошлого года на процессоре Intel Core i5-3317U.

Проведя некоторое время с MacBook Air 2014 года, мы пришли к выводу, что они остаются де-факто единственными современными классическими ультрабуками, несмотря на позиционирование. Да, сегодня Intel считает наличие сенсорного экрана у ультрабука обязательным, но очевидно, что пользователям это просто не нужно. Планшетные функции в обычном компьютере не требуются — это подтвердил провал Windows 8 и спешный возврат кнопки Пуск и возможности запуска плиточных приложений в окнах. В то же время апдейт MacBook Air получился незначительным. Такое впечатление, что Apple затаилась и готовит самые «вкусные» изменения на следующее поколение лэптопов. Будем надеяться, что так и произойдёт.

In 2013, when Apple reduced the price of the MacBook Pro with Retina display range, we stopped recommending the 13-inch MacBook Air on the basis that there was only £150 difference in price. As Apple has continued to drop prices we are still looking at just a £150 difference between the two ranges at the entry level. It's great to see Apple reducing prices across its MacBook ranges, but the lower prices of the MacBook Pro Retina range do have the effect of making the MacBook Air look less attractive in comparison. However, we still love the MacBook Air, which is lighter and thinner, although a fraction bigger than the MacBook Pro with Retina display. If it's the MacBook Air that you have your heart set on, you can't go wrong with it, but if you have a little more in your budget, then consider the MacBook Pro with Retina display because it's a really good deal in comparison.

Instead we’ve fallen in love with it all over again – it’s simply the best laptop we’ve ever seen. As we anticipated Apple has reacted to the very minor price difference between the MacBook Pro with Retina display and the 2013 MacBook Air, by reducing the price by as much as £130. This means the whole MacBook Air line up is now under £1,000, which should serve to make it even more popular than it is currently. Unfortunately in some areas the 2014 Mac Air isn't quite as good as last year's model - the flash storage seems to be slower than it was in 2013. For this reason, if you can get a discounted 13in 2013 MacBook Air from the Apple refurb store, it is still be worth considering as an alternative to the newer 2014 model.

Unfortunately in some areas this year's model isn't quite as good as last year's model - the flash storage seems to be slower than it was in 2013. If you can get a discounted 11in 2013 MacBook Air from the Apple refurb store, it is still be worth considering as an alternative to the 2014 Mac Air model.

The Thunderbolt 2 update will prove useful for connecting to high-resolution UHD displays, and a few percent of added processor power is never unwelcome. But hoped-for improvements in graphics performance and battery longevity did not arise in our testing, in spite of a new Intel processor which was expected to shepherd benefits in both areas.

As Apple has continued to drop prices we are still looking at just a £150 difference between the two ranges at the entry level. MacBook Air finally gets a touchscreen, no thanks to Apple

You can preorder the AirBar for the 13-inch MacBook Air on the company's website, and it will soon be available through Amazon for $99. There's no planned international release yet, but that works out to roughly £75 or AU$130. The Windows version is already available for around $80.

The 13-inch MacBook Air is Apple’s entry-level laptop, starting at £949 (US$999). It might lack the super-sharp Retina screen of the Macbook and MacBook Pro models but its display and performance is fine for most everyday uses. It boasts enough USB ports and other slots to make it more useful out of the box than the more limited, USB-C-only 12-inch MacBook or Pro. And its Wi-Fi is the same high standard as even the top-of-the-range MacBook Pro. If you need raw power go for the Pro. If you need the smallest Mac laptop there is, look at the 12-inch MacBook. But, all in all, despite it not changing much year after year we still love the MacBook Air for its design, price, size and features.

Apple:

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся лишь с самыми простыми играми, больше подходя для простых дел - просмотра видео в Сети и обработки документов. Плюсом можно считать скромный нагрев и расход энергии.

Intel HD Graphics 5000: Низковольтная видеокарта класса GT3 с 40 исполнительными устройствами, не имеющая встроенной памяти eDRAM, встроенная в некоторые процессоры Intel семейства Haswell.

Intel Core i7:

4650U: Низковольтный двухъядерный процессор, основанный на архитектуре Haswell, с базовой частотой в 1.7 ГГц и возможностью ускорения до 3.3 ГГц в режиме Turbo Boost. Оснащен встроенной видеокартой HD Graphics 5000 и двухканальным контроллером памяти DDR3.

11.00: Для планшетов такая диагональ уже считается большой, но для ноутбука она - маленькая.

Небольшие матрицы обходятся дешевле в производстве и позволяют сделать конечное устройство более легковесным. Но содержимое такого экрана кому-то может показаться мелковатым, даже с учётом масштабирования от опер. системы.

Столько, как правило, весят очень лёгкие и компактные ноутбуки с диагональю экрана от 10 до 15 дюймов.

Самый обычный вес для современного ноутбука с экраном от 13 до 16 дюймов, как правило, без дискретной видеокарты.

84.47%: Неплохой товар с очевидными и не такими уж малочисленными недостатками, не способный выделиться среди прямых конкурентов.
