iQOO 3 does seem like a power-packed device with impressive specifications but do you really need a 5G device right now, especially if it will set you back by almost Rs 45,000? How future-ready do you really need to be? Frankly, if you are someone who updates phones every two years, a 5G device doesn’t make sense today given the networks won’t be in place so soon. The 4G variant, which starts at Rs 36,990, I feel is better value-for-money since it comes with the same specifications.

It’ll likely be several years before we see 5G in India, and by that time, you’ll have moved on to a newer phone. And that 12 GB RAM? You really don’t need that either. If you are going for this phone, get the 4G, 8 GB RAM + 256 GB storage variant that retails at Rs 39,990.

The vivo iQOO 3 was just unveiled in India, with a starting price of INR36,990 ($515/€475), for the base 8GB/128GB LTE variant. A bump-up in memory to 8GB/265GB will set you back INR39,990 ($555/€512) and the top-tier iQOO 3 5G, with 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, retails for INR44,990 ($625/€575). In China, the iQOO 3 is only available with 5G across all of the memory tiers and with slightly different price points (but in the same ballpark).
