So, overall, as I said at the beginning, I am super impressed with what the OPPO has done with this year’s Find X7 Ultra flagship. It brings all the goodies of what you get with the best-in-class S24 Ultra, at 50% less price! That’s quite remarkable! However, this phone is currently not launching globally, it’s China-exclusive but I think BBK Electronics, the parent company that owns both OPPO and OnePlus, should launch it as maybe the OnePlus 12 Pro. We have seen, that they do it with the Foldables right!? The OnePlus Open which was the best foldable of 2023 is in fact the rebranded OPPO Find N3. So, I think this could well be the OnePlus 12 Pro. Compared to the OnePlus 12, the 12 Pro will bring all the limitations such as proper IP68 ingress protection, a much superior camera experience, and a more premium design at a slightly more premium price, let’s say NPR 170,000. And at that price, it will have everything to make premium phones like the S24 Ultra and the iPhone 15 Pro Max sweat pretty badly!

All the record-breaking camera and display specs that Oppo managed to cram in the ultimate Find X7 Ultra flagship come at a price of a bit over $900 for the 16GB/512GB version. This is way lower than the equivalent Galaxy S24 Ultra pricing but Oppo is still exploring whether it makes sense to take the phone to the global market and how to price it compared to Samsung's pride and joy. Even if the Find X7 Ultra cost is only slightly lower than the tags of its main competitors - the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra and Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max - it would be with a very good reason. Oppo's 2024 flagship has one of the best camera and display sets in the industry, not to mention all of its other virtues such as fast performance, excellent battery life, or ergonomic design that emerged during our review process.

Even this way, however, this phone is truly unique, and it may be worth importing if you can. It shines in pretty much every way. It’s an outstanding camera smartphone, one of the best. It covers everything from 0.6 to 10x zoom levels with utmost excellence. It looks premium, and it feels premium in the hand, not to mention that it looks great too. The battery life is great, the charging is extremely fast, and so on. There’s just so much to like here, I cannot emphasize that enough. The OPPO Find X7 Ultra is a contender for the best smartphone of the year, without a doubt.

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra delivered outstanding results in the DXOMARK Camera tests and deservedly shares the top spot in the ranking with the Huawei Mate 60 Pro+. Scores were excellent across all test areas but the Oppo especially stood out in terms of portrait capture, thanks to natural and accurate colors and high levels of detail in all shooting conditions. The latest Oppo flagship features an impressive list of hardware specifications, including high-resolution 50MP image sensor in all four camera modules. The main camera comes with a very large 1″ variant that is capable of collecting a lot of photons and therefore image information. In practice, this resulted in natural-looking images with high levels of detail and low noise across all test conditions.

The Find X7 Ultra has us in a bit of a pickle. It has a few shortcomings that we'd label minor - roughly 10% shorter battery life than the competition, no enthusiasm for screen brightness records - none of those being real deal-breakers. The one major problem with it, however, is that we can't have it - not officially, and not with an entirely smooth software experience - Oppo has once again chosen to limit its availability to China, with a ColorOS build tailored for that. Which is unfortunate because it's quite an amazing cameraphone. Short of a somewhat out-of-place ultrawide, we'd be hard-pressed to find any serious fault with its cameras - in terms of results and overall experience.

The Oppo Find X7 Ultra is a stunning phone that offers the complete package, beautiful design, exceptional cameras and tonnes of power. It’s a real shame that it’s unlikely to launch in Europe, as it could prove to be one of the best smartphones of the year. As it stands, though, buyers will have to import from China, and make do with software that’s not designed for the Western market. I didn’t run into any massive issues during my testing, but there were constant small frustrations, and it ultimately felt like a relief when I switched back to my usual phone. This route is only for the most dedicated fans, everyone else will have a better time with an internationally released phone. A compelling alternative is the Vivo X100 Pro, which has been launched globally, and eliminates these software frustrations. It’s still not available in the UK, but it has begun to hit the shelves in selected European countries.

The camera features are one of the most intriguing parts of the Oppo Find X7 Ultra phone. It will bring immersive colors, enhance contrast, and accurate saturation according to each camera mode. However, the videography aspect is slightly downgraded as compared to other brands of smartphones. But still, you are getting a complete package of performance and software. Not to forget, it also has decent battery life and robust fast charging support. Speaking of downsides, then yes the device is a bit bulky and doesn’t support 8K recordings but that is manageable. There’s no doubt that the device is unbeatable when it comes to camera features. But we can’t just evaluate this phone based on the camera perks. Apart from this, the rest of the privileges offered by the Oppo Find X7 Ultra are pretty much the same as another flagship phone and the device truly justifies the value you are going to pay for it.

It’s as powerful as any phone you’re likely to see on sale this year. The styling is standout, the screen gorgeous, and the charging rapid. Most importantly, the Oppo Find X7 Ultra has one of the best camera systems I’ve ever seen on a smartphone. So why doesn’t it earn full marks? Unfortunately Oppo’s decision to limit sales to China makes it incredibly difficult to get hold of in the West. And if you do go to the effort of importing one, the region-specific software can be a source of frustration. Rival flagships might not match it on photographic ability, but they have none of that extra baggage. Any truly dedicated phone photographers may still want to hunt one down – in which case consider this a five star phone. Everyone else will just have to admire it from afar.

I took the Oppo Find X7 Ultra and Vivo X100 Pro out for a day of shooting around Hong Kong. Both phones bring awesome camera systems with a 1-inch main sensor and a really good zoom lens -- or in Oppo's casem two zoom lenses. The Find X7 Ultra is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, while the Vivo X100 Pro runs on the Mediatek Dimensity 9300. The Find X7 Ultra uses the new Sony LTY-900 1-inch sensor for main camera, while the X100 Pro brings back the 1-inch IMX989.

I got the Oppo Find X7 Ultra, and this phone has not one, but two Periscope zoom lenses, as well as a main camera using the brand new Sony LYT-900 1-inch sensor. Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 of course, and 5,000 mAh battery. I took the phone out for a night of shooting against the iPhone 15 Pro Max, Google Pixel 8 Pro, and Vivo X100 Pro.
