Overall we are very impressed with the Dell XPS 12 Convertible Ultrabook. In terms of the design and functionality, it is actually quite unique. Dell have clearly pulled out all the stops in terms of the design of the XPS 12. The screen mechanism is very innovative and the quality of the materials used in construction are some of the best we have seen from a Dell machine. Even though the XPS 12 is a compact notebook, Dell have still managed to shoe-horn in an Intel i7-4500U processor – a fairly potent low voltage design. We are impressed with its performance in this system, even without a dedicated graphics card. It should provide more than enough power for the majority of users.

This is the new version of the XPS 12 two-in-one ultrabook/tablet, updated with an Intel Haswell processor. The XPS 12 is a quality hybrid. The new materials used in the body look fantastic and scream reliability. It has satisfactory performance and long battery life. But with its overheating and other minor issues, it's stuck at "just" four stars.

The Dell XPS 12 remains one of our favorite Windows 8 convertibles, even though the overall design hasn't changed. Sometimes it's best to not mess with a great thing. The 12.5" size is comfortable for ultra-portable travel yet it doesn't feel cramped like the MS Surface Pro 2 or 11.6" Ultrabooks and convertibles like the Dell XPS 11.

You can find small faults with the XPS, but it oozes quality. It provides a workable halfway house between compact Ultrabook and chunky tablet. We wonder how long the hinge mechanism will last under everyday use, but with soaring battery life and a gorgeous design, the Dell XPS 12 is better than ever.

Dell's 2013 edition may not seemed to have changed much on the outside but the new processor combined with an improved battery give this system some outstanding running times. Unfortunately, it still does not have any media card slots for use with flash memory and it stll is a bit heavy even though they did drop the weight slightly from the original model.

The XPS 12 isn’t all roses as its port offerings feel a bit lacking as well as its overall spongy keyboard, which we know is more of a personal preference. Its weight could also cause some concern if you plan on using the XPS 12 as a tablet more often than an ultrabook as tablets are known to be ultraportable mobile devices. The XPS 12 would be better suited to someone who wants an ultrabook who also wants the option of being able to use their notebook as a tablet every so often when they just want to do some couch surfing. If you’re looking for a Windows 8 tablet that can sometimes be used as an ultrabook, then you may want to take a look at the Microsoft Surface.

The XPS 12 has just two USB 3.0 ports, one of which is always on for charging devices such as a smartphone or a digital media player. A headset jack and a built-in dual-array mic sit next to the webcam for videoconferencing. If you’re looking for a lightweight tablet then look elsewhere. It's unique in the convertible ultrabook space, since it's the only one that flips its screen along its equator instead of a flipping or rotating hinge. The XPS 12 now lasts almost eight and a half hours on our battery test, which means you should be able to get a full workday out of the system before you need to find a plug. It's the kind of system you'd have to have some hands on time with if you're considering a purchase. Switching the screen over might come naturally to you, or it may ruin your day with a bout of frustration.

Has anyone completely nailed the hybrid middle ground between laptop and tablet? I wouldn't say so, but Dell's flip-screen XPS 12 at least makes for a more solid laptop than most of the detachable-screen models we've seen. The carbon fiber body gives it an upscale feel, and the new Intel CPUs take care of our main issue with its predecessor, battery life.

Intel HD Graphics 4400: Низковольтная видеокарта класса GT2 с 20 исполнительными устройствами, встроенная в некоторые процессоры Intel семейства Haswell.

Графические процессоры этой категории производительности справятся лишь с самыми простыми играми, больше подходя для простых дел - просмотра видео в Сети и обработки документов. Плюсом можно считать скромный нагрев и расход энергии.

4200U: Низковольтный двухъядерный процессор на архитектуре Haswell, работающий на частотах от 1.6 до 2.6 (Turbo Boost) ГГц. Включает встроенную видеокарту Intel HD Graphics 4400 и двухканальный контроллер памяти DDR3.

12.50": Для планшетов такая диагональ уже считается большой, но для ноутбука она - маленькая.

Небольшие матрицы обходятся дешевле в производстве и позволяют сделать конечное устройство более легковесным. Но содержимое такого экрана кому-то может показаться мелковатым, даже с учётом масштабирования от опер. системы.
